Now have a full selection of gears. The invoice states" Gear linkage failed, detached from gearbox selector".
He found the bits that had fallen off in the tray under the engine and put it all back together again.
That will be £90 plus vat. Included in the price was the car delivered home.

Yes but he said the clip that came off was "unrelated" to the new clutch.

I would have thought that if they managed to use the original parts and "put them back together" they did not put it on correctly in the first place.
I am afraid I would have argued the point

Would it be reasonable to conclude that if you live in Poole area you would not recommended me to get my MOT and 30,000 service where I had this work done.

Ermm, if that's the case how did I predict that it was exactly that?

Like David says, they have to be removed to do the clutch.

I'd ask them to show you which clip it was as I don't believe a word of it.
