Engine oil
I work on the premise that regular oil and filter changes are a good idea for any engine.
After using the last of the oil I had earlier in the year, I went to my local friendly garage to buy another 20 litre container of the Vauxhall Trade Club 10w40 I'd bought a couple of years ago. I got one of the things I'd been after namely the PAS pipe from the rack to the pump, however the news that VTC were no more was a bit of a blow.. So my reluctance to shop about at the moment led me to take a look on eBay, so the question is, has anyone had experience of using Mannol Defender 10w40? It seems to meet the specification required for the KV6, but as always first hand experience is key in these type of matters. Thanks for that Simon, I see you too have a V6, have you used this particular brand yourself?
I only ask as I once owned a Peugeot fitted with the XUD engine, and it sounded much more clattery with different brands of oil........not that that really equates to the silky smooth V6 of course. When it comes to oil changes, I tend to do them a little more frequently than in the handbook, hence the quantity, which if I buy a 1 litre bottle as well should see four changes if my maths is right......I just didn't want to shell out on an unknown if the more experienced members had a better choice. Hi Chris,
I haven't used Mannol Defender but so long as you stick to 10W40 which meets the specified standards you'll have no problems if my long history of car maintenance is anything to go by! Simon

We use defender in ours, it gets changed at 6k and has been perfectly fine.

Just a quick update on this one, I bought the Mannol 10/40 and changed the oil and filter on Thursday.
Combined with fixing the splashy misfire (duff pencil coil) and a new set of plugs, a new air filter along with a replacement shannon tube, the car is running beautifully !! It sounds much quieter, and it certainly is a lot smoother. Thanks to all who contributed. Chris |
