Default Halfords

Well I popped along this morning to the local halfords, and picked up both the spanners and the socket set which I ordered, and bought some other little bits, fuses and some redex and am very happy with them

Glad some of you have managed to pick-up a set or two .

That's both the 18 piece 3/8" set and the 27 piece 1/4" set that has gone for silly money now, a whopping £90 saving to be had.

Paul, You can still buy the socket set online for home delivery, total £13.61.

Many thanks. Just reserved the socket set but unable to get the spanners locally. Nearest store is 63 miles!
To be expected at that price.

Turned up at Mansfield Halfords to be told that they had two sets of spanners reserved and a stock of -1 which meant they only had one set. (and no set in the click and collect cupboard where it should have been). 'Great' says I, 'I'll take the one you've got.' Only to be told after 20minutes of them searching that they couldn't find it . Determined to not leave empty handed. I spy a set of Halfords combination spanners (not advanced though and only 9 piece on a stand for £15 asking. Says I 'Ok, you've got two choices, a disgruntled customer, or, one that thinks that at least the staff try, I'll take this 9 piece set which isn't 'advanced' for £4, Ok?' To which I was pleasantly surprised when after checking with store manager my offer was accepted. So a result - but I'd still rather have had the guaranteed for life Halfords advanced kit.

When I looked on line on Thursday my local store had the socket set which I wanted and would come in incredibly handy but not the spanners which would have been useful. But it offered me the chance to buy them from another store 10 miles away. So I clicked the link and paid for the two and noticed I had to collect before this Thursday..... No prob, got to go in that direction on Tuesday.

Yesterday morning I got a call from the store telling me that they didn't have the spanner set. Bah! I was a bit busy but said I'd be there to collect the sockets.

It was only as I sat stuck in the traffic on the way to the store this lunchtime that I it struck me that they were inconveniencing me quite a lot, had the website not suggested I could get the spanner set I could have cycled to my local shop last week and got from their directly.

So went into the store and there was some confusion as to where my socket set was, it had no paperwork with it when it was found and I made a bit of a fuss about having to traipse over to their shop for something I could have got a lot more easily locally if their web site was not so poor (although I have a feeling that someone in the store might have sold the set they put aside for me......) anyway after trying to point out for several times that, despite the deputy manager protesting that he'd told me 'as soon as he saw the order' (ordered Thursday, called Monday...) and he wandered off for a bit to 'call head office' and came back with a boxed set and asked if they had the spanners in that I wanted (more than, it has 16mm and 18mm that I never use!) and said I could have that for the same price.

I was happy with that. Then he gave me a £20 Halfords gift card for all the trouble they had caused. Bonus. I have the sockets, better spanners and £20!

Sometimes the sun shines right on top of your head.

Ive just bought thte 3/8 deep adv pro set on ebay for £12.50. Bargain.

I've got all the 1/4 and 1/2 that I need but I've had my 3/8 set since 1982 and thought it was about time to upgrade.

Plus.. those deep sockets will come in very handy on the handbrake adjustments.

Thanks for finding these, Wes, I'm doing quite well out of your finds.

Nice find Paul, I didn't see the 28 piece 3/8" set, looks like the deal only went live today 15th.
£12.50 including delivery at Halfords ebay store, absolute bargain!!!
(originally priced £80.00).

If anyone wants to Click & Collect from the Halfords website and use code B17TOOLS15, the 28 piece 3/8" socket set then becomes £10.62.

Thanks for the heads-up - got mine yesterday. Should be a decent replacement for the one I left behind on a road-trip a while back.
