I need a plug with some (or even all) of the RF cable that runs forward to the radio/head unit in the dash.

Sorry to hijack your post BUT when this amp goes down does it make the radio crackle when the heated rear screen is turned on but works fine any other time??

The answer is I don't know, because my HRW isn't working when I push the switch - or at least the switch light isn't coming on.

I've got no amp connected (because I broke it) and the radio definitely crackles without it.

Hi Damian,

The aerial systems are very confusing. On my driver's side D post I have a module described as "filter, screen aerial" part no. XUE 100 001. I also have two chokes in the wiring from the screen elements to earth on the passenger side D post. These parts appear to be the interference suppression for the heated rear window.

I wouldn't assume that changing the aerial "amplifier" module will be the answer. Check that the relevant earths are making good electrical contact first. If your original radio has been replaced by an aftermarket unit, check the connections there too.

Simon

I have to agree with Simon on this last point, aftermarket units do not provide the +12V DC for the amplifier, you have to deliberatly provide it.

I've also got XUE 100 001 on the RH D post. It's an 'aerial filter unit'. It has three connectors - one wire in and two wires out to the HRW, plus an earth tab.

The largest connector is the power supply in from the engine bay fusebox, the other two supply power to the upper and lower elements of the HRW which are earthed by the two black wires on the opposite end of the screen (LH D post - see 1st pic post 12). The aerial filter removes any electrical interference to the ICE system caused by HRW operation. (Source RAVE 86-7-22)

So to answer Damian's question, a faulty aerial filter (XUE 100 001) would cause radio crackle when the HRW is on. A faulty aerial amplifier (XUC100741 or other) would cause radio crackle regardless of what the HRW is doing.

Thank you for the advice, I shall try replacing the module to see what happens 😊
