Cheers

Just buy a Chinese eBay special. They can be had for about £130, you could go through two or three before it's cost the same as a recon unit.

What type of damage ? - Have you considered a new CHRA (Core assembly) to your existing Housing... assuming this is not damaged.

it's inexpensive enough to fit a Quality Core to your Original Garrett Compressor Housing - a better option than an ebay knockoff

And do a full engine flush and change the turbo pipes too, you don't want to be doing the job again!

Paul.
They all come from china now anyway so quality doesn't stand for a lot now
I'd be surprised if the turbo overhaulers fit was anything different, probably just have a high speed balance ticket although they will carry a warranty...

However there are countless ricers running at 30psi on these eBay turbos and on the most part they stand up to the punishment quite well.
I've got a gt28 ready to go on the track car and looking forward to seeing how it stands up to the abuse.

Cartridges are about £60 at the min and I'm ordering one to go my latest project, what's the worst that can happen!!

to clarify - I Do NOT advise fitting a cheap Chinese or Unknown Core to a Quality Garrett (Original) Housing

I'd Consider this Myself http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/websho...01-765472.html

from what I am aware these are UK made assemblies ready to fit to your existing Compressor Housing

I'd also fit New Oil Supply/Drain pipes

Paul gives good advice and certainly doesn't advise fitting the cheaper cartridges. You can even get genuine turbos, think they retail at £600.

One thing you should assume is any cartridge will be an aftermarket part, and I'd put money on it being from the Far East. there aren't any manufacturers making them over here.

You can't guarantee quality with any of them, and simply paying more doesn't necessarily mean your getting a better cartridge.

If you want piece of mind buy a new genuine turbo
If you want some guarantee, get a recon.
If your on a budget, get a new cartridge but how do you define quality?
If your housing is shot and your on a budget, get a new non-genuine turbo but what about quality?
