I personally use Gulf formula G 5 - 40 fully synthetic.

Buy it complete with oil filter from Opie oils.

I have always used Petronas Syntium 3000 5W40. Just bought 5L today from Amazon £25.10 inclusive of delivery charge.

I use either Chevron 10/40 or VTC 10/40 SS

LINK

It's certainly good enough to be used in the diesel, or indeed the petrol models (except V8), meeting all the requirements of the manufacturer, and cheap enough to change at more regular intervals than the book specifies

I'd much rather change the oil more frequently, and given that you can have enough for three oil changes for less than £40 cannot be bad

Rev

Semi synthetic is fine. For the last few years I have used Triple QX from Eurocarparts - bought when they have a better than average sale.

Hi Jules. I have used Castrol Magnatec 10/40 semi, since I had the car, 2008. Never used a drop between yearly or other changes. I am since my mot in early March, been using Castrol Magnatec Synthetic C3 5/40. Checked with Castrol and Opie Oils about using it and both say that it is ok to use it as the lubricity of the oil is the same. The basic tests on it are the same, and the same results are obtained. The engine certainly seems more ready to rev, and mpg has not been fully checked over a period of time to see if I get more mpg.
