Default Heat Shrink with Solder

I have never come across these before.
There again, I have led a sheltered life.

It seems that when you heat the heat shrink it solders the wires together.
Seems like a good plan.
Has anyone used them, are they any good?

No but it seems like a good idea. I normally solder connections but it can be a bit fiddly with a soldering iron.

These heatshrink things are time wasting gimmicks IMO.

There is only one way to solder properly - the old fashioned way.

Clean then twist the wires together, cover in flux paste, heat the wires and apply the solder. Relax whilst inhaling the flux fumes. Ensure that the solder has flowed properly which it always will if the temperature is correct.

You forgot the heatshrink to protect the fantastic soldering job.

What a good idea!

I always use heatshrink anyway for a tidy job, but that is a two stage process, and the number of times I have soldered wires together, then after admiring my handiwork, realising I forgot to slide on the heatshrink first!

I wonder if "low temprature" solder will be serviceable ( too brittle ) in vehicle ( ie high vibration ) applications?

Can't be that bad then!
I see that R.S.Components, a Company that I have always rated, supply them too.

I started my career in engineering working for Plessey. I worked at Taplow Court near Maidenhead between 1981 and 1986.

At the same time, 1978- 1986, I was slightly down the river from you at Bourne End, working for Ardrox, the NDT company.
We must have seen each other, in the pubs and clubs, in that area.
