Black Header Tank
My current header tank is painted black, which looks fine, however it does suffer from the occasional chip and I'm forever re-touching it.
With this in mind, I've recently acquired a black header tank in very good condition . One thing though: The pressure cap on the black tank is rated at 100, whereas the cap on my current tank is 140. So my question: are there any issues with retrofitting a black tank that I should be aware of? I'm guessing for starters it should only be used with the lower rated cap - any thoughts? Engine is 2.0 V6 on an 03 plate. Cheers, Cliff

I have got a black header tank fitted to the ZTT, and not had a problem with it, and it definitely better than the grubby original which was fitted Stu |

Cheers Stu, it should certainly look nicer than the painted one I've currently got fitted . I was just pondering the significance of the differing cap pressures

This might help explaining.
I also understand the the black tanks have an overflow pipe fitted. My V6 is a Cowley car, but is a late one so is fitted with the dirty looking yellow one.

Thanks. So reading that, am I right in assuming it should be safe (preferable even) to continue with a 140 cap on the black tank?
Cliff Oh, and yes, it does have an overflow pipe connected.

Perfectly safe to use a 140 cap. The 100 caps were used on petrol models until 2000 then the 140 previously only used on diesels was used as standard across all models.

The only difference is the addition of the black colour in the plastic, nothing else has changed.

Wow, many thanks for that! That's some excellent research you've done . I've had a quick skim through, but will read through again tomorrow when I can spend a bit more time absorbing all the info.
Who could have guessed that a "simple" cap and tank could be so complex. Thanks again, Cliff
