Smile Fuel Pump Repair Kit (slave1) Rover 75 1.8 Petrol

Hi there!

Ok so after a run around with start up issues a diagnostic has identified this as the problem:

Rover 75 MG ZT PETROL FUEL PUMP & SENDER UNIT WGS100072 WFX181471

There seems to be only one of these in the whole universe and my mechanic friend did that he cannot find the associated repair kit >> as he tells me that it would be an easier job to fix it rather than replace the whole unit...

What are your thoughts on this and are there any repair kits to be found for the slave unit?

Thanks for your time

Do a search for fabled orange clip, FOC, fuel filter separation, ffs etc, etc before doing anything else

Hi Brian

I have been reading all the info on this site for the last few months, having wanted to own a 75 and a ZT (since I drove my dad's 190 a few years back - which he subsequently sold)

So I commited to a 75 on a 54 plate 2 months ago - what a beautiful car!

Anyways... fully clued up on all the starter issues that can occur and have checked the fuel filter

One question >> did any Rover 75's get fitted with a lifetime fuel filter? As the gubbins as described in all the threads on here cannot be located...??

We have had a £60 diagnostic done and the expert chap spent an hour with the car, testing the fuel pressure manually etc.

So I am going to plumb for being certain that it is a sender unit issue >> as they have found it to have deteriorated inside...

I think I would prefer to replace the unit, however my mechanic friend said it would be easier to fix it with a repair kit...

Are there any and what are your thoughts about it?

Thanks for your valued input

Is your car NASP or turbocharged?

The latter has a slightly higher fuel pump output pressure, but that's about it.

Petrol fuel pumps are not known to be troublesome, and if there is a fuel delivery pressure issue, it is much more likely to be the filter module on the nearside of the tank

Yes, all petrol 75 & ZT models have a lifetime fuel filter. Having said that, many get changed when they have FFS (Fuel Filter Syndrome), though it's not essential. FFS happens in post-2001 (approx) models, which have a two part filter housing. This is almost certainly what you have and the fix is the Fabled Orange Clip as you've already been advised. The low fuel pressure is the direct effect of FFS. You can get the filter clip from Xpart/Rimmer and eBay.

Hey yes that's great news that this is the only problem >> now unfortunately Rimmer Bros seem to have discontinued (!) the orange clip...

Do you know of a quick source for this item?

Thanks in advance

Here's a useful one that I found that includes the O' ring with out having to purchase the whole filter unit and its £13 bargain!
