I can put up with them anywhere but my bedroom. They just have to go if I spot one. The thought of one near me when I'm in bed and in the dark is very disturbing to me.
This is mainly due to one night I decided to have a sip of milk from a cup I had placed on the bedside table. When the cup reached my lips, all I could feel was legs and a bulbous body in my mouth. Absolutely horrible, coughing and spluttering I spat it out and all I saw was a spider running between the pillows.
The damn thing was lurking in the cup.
Despite that, I still won't kill them, but catch them in a glass, and eject them.
I cover any cups I may take up to bed now....without fail.

I must smell really offensive. At least to spiders, wasps, bees, gnats, midges and any other lepidopteron. Have never been stung or bitten by any. Maybe my 100 yard stare is the reason. That's from 100 yards.

However, they are very useful. They eat only other similar beasts, by the million. Imagine the world if they were vegetarian. No, on second thoughts...

I was bitten by a false widow spider last year. I was sitting in one of the wooden garden seats and felt a very slight NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- at the base of my thumb. Thought nothing of it but a few hours after I started feeling ill, shaking, light headed etc. and my hand started swelling up. It was a very unpleasant experience and took over a week before it cleared with the help of tablets from the Doctor.

Had an upside though, for a few months after the arthritis in that thumb was a lot better.

I went on a spider hunt and found the culprit living under the arm of the seat, he was despatched, plus loads of them in the garden in that area. Web search said they hunt wood lice and need the ability to get through their shells so that gives them the ability to bite through our skin and inject the poison. Some pictures on the net of damage done by their bites is frightening. Now I have a good check to make sure the area is clear when I sit out there . I've never been bothered by spiders and I'm still not, just more aware that they can hurt and watch out for them.

Snakes however.

The naughty word is not a naughty word but the feeling one gets when injected by a needle. Never thought the nurse was being naughty when she says little NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- just before jabbing the needle in, or was she?
