I've tried them and was broadly disappointed in that the plastic sleeve almost shrivels up by the time the solder is properly melted. I rarely got as good a result as you see on the YouTube adverts.

Solder Shrink Sleeves (or 'Sorda' as the yanks have it): https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...shrink+sleeves

We’ve used them in the agricultural industry for years

I used them last year to connect my front fan wires, I tried it and then cut it open to see how strong it was and I was happy with the results.

There is only one way to solder properly - the old fashioned way.

Clean then twist the wires together, cover in flux paste, heat the wires and apply the solder. Relax whilst inhaling the flux fumes. Ensure that the solder has flowed properly which it always will if the temperature is correct.
You don't want to be inhaling solder fumes, it contains arsenic.

That's what makes it worthwhile!

Stuff like this is frowned upon by the tin research institute, or as they are now known, the international tin association.

Anyway, I prefer to use standard heatshrink, and to intertwine the stranded ends of each conductor, after dipping into a non corrosive flux, followed by wetting with 60/40 solder.

A visual inspection of the joint followed by shrinking the sleeve.

Things like this designed to "save time" rarely do, I've lost count of the amount of faults in car wiring caused by quick fix connectors.

My advice is not to bother

I was talking with one of our salesman the other day and he was asking when I started here and I told him 1972 and he started to laugh. So inasked him why he was laughing and he replied he wasn’t even born then. Funniest thing is though I look younger than he does
