I had a similar problem with a diesel, wouldn't go above 2000 revs, turned out to be a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor.

As i said, I have got a power loss. When the car is cold, the tachometer pointer does not move while the engine seems to run normally. No fault anywhere showing on the dashboard. After a few minutes, the pointer goes up to 2000 RPM, no more. After reading some post here, I have cleaned the EGR valve but nothing changes. I also checked my fuses, swapped some of them, idem. I wonder if the valve Membrane is still doing the job but how to be sure? I removed the EGR valve and the air filter astarted the engine. Always the same symtoms. What is the next step now? MAF sensor, Intercooler seal, turbo hose?

This is a failure of the ECM to communicate on the CANBUS, forget everything else you've read until you have removed the ECM from it's housing and checked it for water ingress

Hopefully this will be caught before it's too late
