There’s a dedicated group to the Marina on Facebook and there’s some beautiful cars on it

I used to know a guy who was the Mumfords rep in the 1970's (local BL dealer who did conversions on marinas etc). His company marina had all sorts of demo extras fitted including electric windows.

My best mate had one, he loved it. My father -in-law had the Ital

298 on the road, yes indeed a rare car. I do like to see old cars in showroom condition, even if I don't like the car

How we take these things for granted nowadays… back in the mid-70s, a guy I worked with a 1.3 coupé, and thought this made him Mr Super Cool.

Reclining seats were also something of a novelty back then – to emphasise the fact that he had them, he’d drive around semi-reclined, wearing shades, almost certainly struggling to see over the dashboard, cigarette carefully positioned drooping from his lower lip.

To enhance the image, he fitted an aftermarket electric window kit to the front doors. This consisted of two big ignorant boxes which attached – none too securely – to the door cards, with the splined shaft where the handle would normally engaging with a motor inside (cables dangling everywhere of course).

They kind of worked, but didn’t fix well to the doors, so would twist and move around as he operated them.

Where are you now, Tom Hudson from Tobermore…

Ooh about 20MPH I'd say

Brooklands green Mk 2 fitted with a modified Mk3 front spoiler, and banded steel wheels.

Oh and yes I've plenty of BL tin still, the scrapman will be pleased to hear

Brian
