Drove it sixty miles north, then serviced a Kaiser DS170 compressor, then drove it south a further 100 miles and collected my freshly shotblasted rear suspension parts from HordenHoudini

I then drove further south and did another small job in Middlesbrough, and then got to see the nicest Mk1 75 I've seen in a long while

Then I drove home and made myself a sandwich, and removed the ECM I'd fitted at 6AM..........a 220 mile test is near enough for me

The final job was to code the second ECM to the car, and tomorrow the paint brush will be out in earnest.......there's a subframe and rear anti roll bar to sort out

Today.
Removed rear suspension upper arms, lower arms and subframe. Upper arms are like a cross between a jigsaw puzzle and a paper doyley. Subframe is showing obvious signs of delamination.
Changed the bushes in the hub carriers. "Must have" tool here is a BMW / Opel rear suspension bush press kit for 17 quid off eBay. Makes this job a doddle and (having seen first hand how much "oof" was required from the breaker bar on it to shift the bushes) I'd hate to try and do the job without it.

I cut the antiroll bar brackets off. If life's too short to stuff a mushroom, it's way too short to drill four bolts out.

I think that's enough for one day. Next up, Hammerite and bolting on a load of new parts.

Today I finally finished fitting my real wood dashboard after destroying some pieces trying to remove a stripped screw. Cheers to Tim JMGR's in Leigh for selling me the right part plus a real leather armrest for a good price.

I've got to say, at first I was sceptical about the difference changing the dash from light oak to walnut would be - I thought the walnut would be too dark - but after swapping the dash, the walnut is a massive improvement.

Here are some pictures - Before and After

I also removed the cigarette lighter fascia, because I always have something plugged into it and reassembly of it was quite frankly frustrating.

All I need now is a walnut wheel, gear shift surround, and some walnut accessories when Simon who makes them gets better. After that, it'll be time to fit a MK1 ZT front end - That being said, it isn't a bad looking car by any means.

Changed the brake pad wear sensor on the front to clear the low pad warning and then faffed around with the number plate light. Resoldered all the connections on the back but think the bulb holder has gone weak. Managed to get it to stay on so hopefully will last until the MOT next week.

Still need to properly investigate what someone's done to the spoiler repair - i'd rather not chop bits out of my new number plate lamp.

oh, and managed to drop my 1/4 drive extension and 10mm socket down inside the boot lid I could hear it rolling around as I opened and closed the lid but couldn't find it. Luckily after giving the car a run around it found it's way in to the bottom on the lid so I could reach it when I open the boot. *phew*

Added the EGR and MAP also the rubber gaskets to the cleaned out manifolds, some are used and fitted at the Nano meets, 5 ready and 1 in the cleaning bay which as already had one clean it still needs another to complete the process, time consuming procedure.

The amount of muck that comes out of these manifolds I would hate to think what some members dish washers that have been used to clean them would look like in the pipes etc,

Cracked my windscreen when the (bladeless) wiper arm sprang back onto it.
Options -
Scrap the car?
Replacement screen from one of the specialist brakers?

It would be a shame to scrap this KV6 as I've recently fitted new belts, however there is rust on one sill and the rubber has gone from a front suspension arm rear bracket. It also has an apparently unsolvable power stering fluid leak.

Nothing is ever ‘unsolvable ‘. Just needs a good diagnosis, then a repair/ replace. Simples.
