insurance over 1k to replace one small unit, local supplier, less then £200 which was less then our excess.

you can get self cleaning, Pilkington Blue seems to work.

Yes - that is what our chap said Ian - a new panel is not expensive.

If one went I would have an opening vent of some sort in the replacement. Whilst I love the heat build up in the winter, spring and autumn when you get a clear day, last summers heat wave was a bit uncomfortable!!

But as SWMBO says - how many days like that do we get a year compared to those wonderful cold days that come with a bit of sun where we sit out and enjoy the delicious warmth?

To date no one has !!!! Apparently it is very difficult these days with modern glass/double glazed panels to actually break them. In fact I understand hitting them in the middle with something just makes whatever hits the pane bounce off as the sealed unit acts like a kind of drum where the energy is absorbed by both panes of glass and the gas inbetween.

Am I right in thinking that to break a double glazed window you have to use a screwdriver or similar in one of the corners? Sure I heard that somewhere.

Our conservatory is about 7 years old - so far so good

Clive, double glazed units tend to to be filled with whatever happens to be floating about in the atmosphere when the two panes are sealed together

A lot of people will tell you how they are filled with inert gasses to improve their insulation performance, but this is very rarely the case.
