Nope, I'm getting bored with this kind of job now.
I suppose someone will get the benefit of this type of refurbishment in the future |

Spent the afternoon in the sunshine stripping down and rebuilding front suspension struts.
Using donor struts from cable tie, i used the springs, damper buffers, bearings and other bits at the top and fitted these to my damper. I repacked the top mount bearing and greased all the metal parts. I had to go out and buy some longer spring compressors as i couldn't remove my first set from the spring I finally refitted the spring and got the centre bolt back on. Didn't have time to put it back onto the car today. Hopefully the offside will go a bit quicker. I also fitted the tyre guards, filled a new drop link with extra grease and painted the brake disc guard. Last edited by Andy_with_a_screwdriver; 27th March 2019 at 00:11.. |

I've just got back from taking my 94 year old mum out, so based on genetics, I may get the benefit of doing the rear arms. A 94 year old Rover driver! or

Sorry for delay in answering your post, I used Hycote, Mazda Silverstone (metallic) it is not an 100% match for my silver sparkle paint on the wheel but very near. So couple of coats of met silver then a coat of clear, once badges fitted I put a couple of coats of clear over the centres again including the badges. If your wheels are liquid silver then it may be ok but always best to look at all the silvers in the store, I got mine from a local car store £4.99 fitted them to the wheel yesterday

Today I had a bit of time on my hands, unusual for me, so decided to have a look at the map sensor. No! Needed to take the manifold off to get at the bolt that holds it onto the manifold. Not enough time . So decided to check the pcv filter and the air filter. I don’t know where I have been in the last 10 months, but the air filter was absolutely filthy. Changed that. Pcv filter was ok but still changed it. It would be a shame not to while I was in there. The map will have to wait until Saturday. I can clean the manifold out then.

I know what you mean John, I chopped some wood and lit the fire tonight
Although I spent the day sunning myself rebuilding the nearside front suspension. New ARB droplink, new ARB rubber mounts, replacement spring, new pinch bolts, greased bearings. And After about 3 weeks on axle stands I got the car back on the ground and drove it. fortunately all the knocking noises seem to have gone (from the nearside anyway) Last edited by Andy_with_a_screwdriver; 28th March 2019 at 23:34.. |

With the warmth and the sunshine, my mechanic juices were flowing, so I get her rear in the air again and start to slacken off the nearside suspension to change the upper arm to match the nice job on the offside. Things have gone very well and all finished before lunch. A few sharp taps with an MOT style small hammer and the loose paint and flake on the old arm revealed about the same amount of tinworm as on the other side, so very glad it's sorted. They have both gone under the spring seat and around the curve at the top next to the spring. I have sprayed Dynax S50 into those areas on the replacements to avoid the same happening again, using the 360 degree lance supplied (very handy as it's very slim and flexible - unlike me!). A celebratory glass or two may be consumed later. Thanks to all who have given advice and listed their experiences on the forum. Much appreciated. My contribution would be to use good quality six point spanners and sockets where possible, give everything a good wire brushing and a liberal spray of Plus Gas or similar. Put everything back with Copaslip (apart from specially coated bolts) to help the next poor soul! Also, be prepared for some grunt to get the spring back into the correct place! Double check everything and Good Luck. Mike
