Default BMW E46 Android 8 media system Advice please,

Hi Guys Firstly I hope I have posted this item in correct section?

I recently fitted the latest BMW E46 android 8 media unit,I find it excellent ,very clear, crisp and powers up in about 3 seconds. This thing can virtually do everything from sat nav to TV etc,one of its little tricks is that it supports OBD2 (on board Diagnostics)which is where my question comes in?

Although all wiring is supplied and marked, I do have to purchase an OBD2 Bluetooth diagnostic tool. Where can I purchase the correct one from?, and how do I connect to the car so that all data from the car computer is displayed?

You'll need a bluetooth adapter with ELM327 interface that you put into your car's OBDII port. It can then transmit the information to your media unit over bluetooth.

I recently bought and installed this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth...72.m2749.l2649

But used the full Torque Pro application. Works well, only took two attempts to get it set-up which for me is good. I leave it connected and it doesn't take up much room (mine's an auto). Bought it as I wanted to monitor the coolant temp easily - not really bothered with fault codes etc as I use TOAF for that.

Regards

Really appreciate your advice. My biggest problem is knowing whereabouts in the car to "Connect" it? Plus where does the blue tooth come in, does it self pair or once again is it something I would have to do and if so how? The only obvious connections are the those connected to the media unit, so if I connect to those, do I then Bluetooth the car computer and OBD box to pair?

Just thinking am I being stupid?(don't answer that) ie does my Rover have an OBD socket which is where I insert the OBD diagnostic box?And then because I want the info to show on my media system and NOT my phone,do I then Bluetooth the box to the media unit (BMW E46)

The OBD socket is under the steering column - plug the OBD adapter into that and pair it with your stereo.

Yes, you just plug it into the standard OBD socket located in the footwell, mine Lhd, just pokes out of the underside of the interior roughly in-line with where the clutch pedal would be (if I had one).

You then go into your Android unit install the software and pair the Android unit with your wireless ELM327. (My instructions told me to re-install the Torque software)

Once installed it appears in your applications just like any other programme.

many thanks for that! To be honest prior to your message I went out there with a torch and immediately found it as said ,drivers side at an angle of about 45 degrees.Brain initially was obviously not engaged!!
