Default Automatic Gearbox Manual Mode

Hi everyone,
Having taken apart my interior I noticed that the rubber boot of the gear selector has a cut out for what I think would be a place for the lever to slide in for a manual mode. I know that the freelander with the kv6 had the same box and in had a manual "Tiptronic" or however is called mode. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried or knows if it's possible to gain access to a manual mode. It's nothing important obviously but I'm just curious as if this is possible to do
Regards,
Thanos.
