There seems to be a lot of guesswork going on here by people who don't even realise this is about a 1.8 petrol. Also, the "sensor" next to the air filter is a boost control solenoid, not an airflow sensor.
It seems this engine type has more than its fair share of issues, without home- brewed mods screwing things up.
The turbo actuator linkage one is interesting, never seen that before.
My daughters car has a weak mixture issue on load until the boost builds up, then the fuelling increases, the revs do likewise and it's away like a train.
I fitted a lambda reader, which pointed at a failed lambda, changed this, disconnected the battery, and it's much improved, but still weak on mid/full throttle until the boost kicks in. I'm going to monitor the map sensor output to see if that's performing as it should, after that it could be the fuel pressure regulator, then I'm stumped.
It would be nice if my obdII reader worked on this car, but sadly not. Can anyone recommend one that does?
All the best,
Huw

Yes realise that. I had a search before posting, expecting to find one that fitted, but it seems there are a multitude of different issues that afflict the 1.8t.
I'm hoping someone will know the answer to my obd reader question though.

Most generic code readers work with the petrol engined cars, from an ELM with the Torque app on android phones/tablets, to more expensive one's, like the one i use...

Does anyone have a 1.8 mg turbo map sensor for sale or borrow?
Thanks,
