clutch gone again :-( :-( :-( :-(

hi all in the last few weeks i've had the borg n beck clutch from dmgrs fitted & the metal master cylindet from andy willi fitted. But it is rubbish again very soft & hitty missy absolutely sick as a chip. Oh & i've developed a knock which i think maybe subframe bushes as i've replaced strut top bearings, wishbones & droplinks. Now i know they never go but the same was said about my last car a 406 hdi which had the same bother coincidentally not long after having a clutch done This car may be going the journey

Have you checked the lower engine mount?

i'm going round to my mates garage tomorrow as hes got a pit to try & find the banging noise. But the clutch is my main headache tbh i think if a got a grand for the car i'd be happy at the minute :-( unless its sorted in the next 48 hrs

So who replaced the clutch etc for you and have you had a word, a clutch that fails so soon is I must admit tiresome in the least.

clutch has been bled & is now ok. But tbh i've lost faith in the car

Perhaps you have really lost faith in yourself

Pause a while and then remind yourself these are great cars but you must proceed slowly with help from this Forum rather than thrashing about and kicking out at the slightest hiccup.

a know what you mean just when youve only had a car 3 months & its costing £££ & time off work its a pain to put it mildy...i've had a chat with andy willi & he's never had any bother with his metal masters. So all i can do is give it time fingers crossed eh

Lost 'faith', why? All manual cars have a clutch; a clutchs won't last forever. Some clutch fitters are rubbish - why is this the 'fault' of the car?

When the clutch eventually failed on mine (slave cylinder went) I drove it down a welsh mountain and all the way to Northampton with very little trouble considering I had no clutch! I then topped up the master and continued to use it for a week and a half until I could get the clutch done. What a great car!

because ive done about 20 miles now & it has just went to the floor & now ive no clutch at all ..... so i'm rather peeved to say the least. The old clutch cable system was far better tbf. The cars are great i do really like it but a bit sick at the moment

Brian,

A new second-hand car is rarely fault free. You'll need to allow some time and money to sort out the legacy of the previous owner(s). So long as you have the repairs done to a high standard, the car will then be reliable and pleasureable. Unfortunately failing to bleed the clutch properly is disgraceful, so that's the lesson to take away with you on this occasion. Don't blame the poor old car!
