Engine under tray guard thing
Hello peeps. Having spent far more than the old girl is worth, in last 6 months I've nearly got a new car, but there's always something else. No longer possible to tie wrap and otherwise bodge the under engine splash guard protection thing. My questions are..Are these standard interchangeable between all models? Is there any second hand ones out there? Do the £40 ones on ebay include fittings, heat shield and sound proofing? I'd do with out but it has clearly been very effective at protecting the sump etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

Put an ad in the Items Wanted section Ian. I can't find any undertrays on the bay at the moment.
Good luck. Chad.

While they do offer protection, that's not what they're there for. The official answer from the factory was that they were fitted to pre-empt proposed laws about pass by noise, that never came about. Hence you could actually just remove it if you want, with no ill effects. Apart from that, I know nothing about them, save that the diesel version is a bit shorter, front to back, but still fits.

Me too, I think the diesel just has that strip of soundproofing extra

Ah, I thought I'd read that on here somewhere
It's always possible that I've got things a bit mixed up. It's easily done these days Whatever, the OP has his answer, in that they basically are interchangeable.

They are also an aerodynamic aid, probably not designed as such in this case. But turbulent air causes drag. If there's no gap for the air to flow in to then it will be smooth-er. So might aid mpg fractionally.
I'll certainly find out when I source one for my 2.5. Every little helps.
