Air con fan problem? Hmm.
Just as I thought the old myth that problems with your car come in twos hadn't happened, I have another nice problem!
Whenever I turn my air conditioning on there was an awful racket from under the bonnet. On closer inspection it seems to be the air conditioning fan trying to spin but getting caught on something or has snapped off the spindle which is trying to spin or something like that! I can't really get a good view of it since there's no really easy way to access it The noise goes off as soon as you turn off the air conditioning and only comes on with the air conditioning. I've uploaded a short video of the problem just to see if any of you guys have seen it before and if it's common? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz5Cct0dZyQ Steve

That fan also cools the engine. The blade assembly attaches to the motor spindle using a bayonet type of fitting (similar to the old tungsten electric light bulbs). It sounds as if yours has become detached or has broken. The blade assembly is available separately but it's a fair amount of dismantling to reach it. Simon

Steve, although there is a fair bit of dismantling involved to get at the fan it isn't as daunting a task as it first appears. I found this "how to" useful, kind of an idiots guide pointing out the location of fastenings etc. The only thing I found "awkward" was persuading the 13mm bolts in the crash bar to undo. Grease all the bolts when you reassemble.

Steve.
Front bumper off once removed you do not need to remove the slam panel, just remove the crash bar four bolts either side and one nut either side if it is the fan blade come loose this will give you more than enough room to either fit it back or exchange it, if fitting the same one you can also drill a small 3mm holes and add a self taper grub screw. By the way the blade is removed clockwise, and fitted anticlockwise cheers Arctic http://youtu.be/v422cKkvFAk
