Am I Leaking ?
ROVER 75 PETROL 2LTR
Some months ago at my MOT i had to have the front brake pipes changed. This was carried out and no further problems. The other day as I sometimes do I popped the cover to check the brake and clutch fluid chamber. Before I had the brakes done I always remembered the oil level was always up to the MAX line. I looked and found the level much lower than this but dont know if the mechanic filled it up to a lower level which is normal or if its leaking!!! I park my car on a clean flat concrete surface and see no leaks. I would like to know the following: Where should I look for leaks under the car if any? Where should the fluid level always be at? If there is a leak can I drive the car ( i think I already know that answer !!!. Many thanks |

Almost certain the mechanic has bled the brakes as he should and that is why the fluid is at a different but still safe level.
I don't think it is anything to worry about, just note the new level and check it is maintained when you next check

If the level is not reasonably constant then i would not drive the car and take it to a garage but before you head off to them I think all you have now is a new level to monitor and there is no problem, the level will fall everso slightly as the pads wear but this will be over many months and not noticable on a daily / weekly basis, any noticable drop in a short period of time indicates a fault.
Having said that I pretty certain it will be fine, just the mechanic doing his job .

Pretty certain that was a Mr Haynes goof, the resevoir you are checking is for the brakes only. The clutch Master resevoir is seemingly under the dash attached to the pedal and from what I can gather an absolute pain to check
