I suspect that this may have more to do with a rift between Davis & Cameron,than 42 days.
With Davis positioning himself for when the Cameron bubble bursts.

Nah, he's doing it as a mini-referndum in his constituency so he can show how much people hate Labour.

Which begs the question will Labour have a candidate in order to bring on an open debate? probably not seeing as DD has the support of Murdoch.
