Default MG ZS K-series

Hi,

Not mine this but a friend has a ZS 120+ with the K-series in.

The head went first about 18months ago and then was repaired. Went again 5 months ago and from that point appeared okay but sometimes would drink coolant and then after being filled up would be okay and not touch a drop for ages. However after the second HGF repair with an MLS gasket the car would take ages to warm up.

Yesterday after a short run the car overheated but the temperature needle in the car was showing a normal reading but the coolant was boiling. Obviously the head has gone again or so we suspect but what else is wrong??

Any experts?? The 2nd repair is still under warranty

Thanks

Is it PRT or normal thermostat on the back? After that many HGF's, i'd be changing the engine!

Was the coolant actually boiling or is there just a lot of air in the system?

I recently had my water pump done in the TF and they didn't bleed it properly... The coolant was bubbling and charging out the expansion tank, all we did was undo a bleed screw on the rad, some air came out then everything returned to normal

To many people make the mistake of assuming HGF when its sometimes very simple could be a faulty expansion cap or the fan is working for example

When I lived in Bradford I used to take my cars to M&G on Wakefield Rd, Bradford. Always happy with their standard of service and diagnosis. They sorted my HGF on the ZTT 2 years ago and no probs since then. If your mate lives in the area it could be worthwhile getting his motor booked in?
