Default diesel cam sensor covered in oil ?

Having a bit of trouble starting my 02 plate diesel, it will start after a bit of winding on the starter, i thought i would try the cam sensor in the freezer trick , on removing the sensor i noticed it was dripping in oil, is this normal or should it be dry? i have tried the fuel pumps which seem ok , the leak back pipes look ok with no sign of leaking , any more ideas before i splash out on a very expensive sensor ?

Yes the cam sensor should be coming into contact with the oil. You can always get the car checked out on T4 diagnostics to see if the cam sensor is at fault, or if fuel pressure either on the low or high pressure side is the problem.

Yep sounds that way. Had the same a few months ago and a replacement cam sensor did the trick.

Assuming he could find a kindly soul, who has a T4 in Newcastle, eh? Mike.
Always happy to lend a hand where possible

Brian that is an offer he should take advantage of. I would have done if I was nearer!
