Have you checked your gear lever cables at the gearbox end?
These are a push on ball joint, may be 1 worn and popped off.

Simon lipped me to it. I had the same in an old Renault and the linkage had failed between selector and gearbox. A nut n bolt had worked loose so the sector rod was slipping over a spline.
Are you actually getting gears Jack? Hard to tell as you won't have any resistance from the engine or wheels!
Hope it's an easy cheap fix.
Regards. Steve.

I'm getting limited amounts of drive in low gears - i.e. in 1st at the biting point you can feel the car tense, same in reverse, but in 5th you don't really get it so much.

Sorry for not replying to half the posts - I'm still getting the hang of car mechanics (before I bought the ZT i'd never even changed a headlight bulb before!), and I've been having my Uni exams. Next week me and my Dad can crack through all the suggestions and have a look.

My Dad found that the master cylinder was under the battery box and some clip might of come out so he asked me to remove the battery box so we could look.

He had a reach inside and appears to of found the gear selector cables - and it doesn't seem like it's engaging any gear properly. Could this be the problem?

Perhaps I was a bit over-zealous there...

Jacked it up, the wheel gets progressive easier to turn the higher gear I select. It also spins easier with the clutch in. This suggests that at the very least something is going on down there.

My Dad's new helpful suggestion... "inertia flywheel" whatever that is.

As stated in previous posts. The center of the driven plate has separated from the outer friction part.
It will not be the flywheel or the slave cylinder or master cylinder.

This sort of damage can be caused by the plain bearing in the end of the crankshaft being worn and allowing the gearbox input shaft to move. This can cause misalignment and vibration of the driven plates steel center causing metal fatigue and failure.

( PS. Or trying to pull away like an F1 driver !! Lol. )

I disagree with you when you say "it will not be the Flywheel"

Dual Mass Flywheels can completely fail causing a total loss of drive & also produce "jingling" or "clattering" noises.

I have seen this for myself on a few motors in the past.

Good news - garage picked my car up for further diagnosis.

Bad news - in the process of picking it up, they managed to put a massive scratch on the bottom and front of the bumper, and seem to of cracked it a little as well. Not happy.
