Just as a update, i went out this morning and hey presto it started first time, drove to work, left off work again no problems, went out this evening and back again ..no probs...went to start it immediately after turning off...nothing!!! could something be overheating? and when it cools the problem disappears?

Having read another forum http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic396792.htm it appears the fault may be the camshaft sensor.....is this something that can be fitted easily? i need to keep costs down at this time of year so any adivce on fitting this sensor would be appreciated.......thanks

No, the sensor would not stop the engine from turning over. It would stop it from firing.
When the cam sensor goes first signs are will start fine from cold but when hot it will just churn away but not start

that last entry didn't make sense...what i meant to say was that the trouble starts when the engine is hot and starts ok when it is cold....the engine does not turn over when turning the key, i don't hear anything at all, no clicks nothing

yes, i plan to check the battery and starter motor at the weekend, weather permitting(its pouring down with snow here in suffolk!). The lights don't flicker at all when trying to start the car.
