Brake bulb warninglight/light U/S
Hi, my nearside brake light failed and dash warning light came on. The bulb was checked but OK (I then changed it for a new one with no success). I swapped the working offside bulb over as a replacement, ....nearside still not working (although OK when swapped back)-offside still OK. Dash warning on all time. disconnected earth for 30 mins. On restart of engine dash light OFF, on application of brakes light back on permanently . NO success with lighting n/s light at any time.
Can you help? PHILREP. |

Check other bulbs as when one goes out the car switches to brakelights for safety.

Hi
Just had a similar problem which was traced to non working /broken number plates lights which is a common problem on our cars,so I would suggest checking there first. Ian sorry just seen your latest post so probably not much help.

Local small general garage says bulb socket has 'double earth' and are researching???
EX Rover garage.....no confidence, when ECU got wet, 3yrs ago, they quoted (without seeing) £500.00 with £200.00 down and no refund of any of the £500.00 if not the problem. PHILRET Last edited by PHILRET; 15th June 2011 at 19:26.. |

Assuming it might be a poor earth, you can easily confirm it by running two bits of wire to each lamp cluster earth point, from a known good sound earth on the body. If that clears the fault, you then need to work out which lighting cluster has a poor earth by removing each extra wire in turn until the fault reappears. Assuming all lamps are definately good, the more likely cause is poor contact beween lamp and lampholder. Try cleaning up the solder blob contacts on the lamps. Just rubbing the blob on the tyre sidewall is usually enough to clean them.

Thanks for tip Harry....no joy I'm afraid.
Cross checked bulbs_OK. Cleaned contacts_no joy. Tried wiring, as suggested_no joy. The frustration goes on. PHILRET |
