Default Alternative to Union Jack/Chequered Flag badge?

Hi all, can anyone point me in the direction of an alternative to the default rear ZT union/chequred flag for my recently acquired ZT-T.

Also wondering if the badge can be removed and left blank or does it leave a mark/hole?

Cheers.

Very careful removal of the badge can be achieved, after which remove any remaining adhesive with methylated spirit. However you are likely to find that because of slight Sunlight fading of the surrounding area, the outline of the flag will still show.

I would suggest to cover the area you then stick on an alternative flag such as the one in this link, although technically it should be a cross of St George, as the car was built in England.

Why would anyone want to replace the flag badge with an 'alternative'? I understand de-badging, but can't see any point in 're-badging'. Perhaps you could enlighten me?

Quite agree, I'm currently replacing a couple of faded badges on my Connie, to keep her as original as possible.

Remove it by all means but don't put an alternative flag(s) on please. Apart from anything else it's a bit disrespectful... In fact it's no better than putting one of those generic turbo badges on a non turbo car lol

Just replace them with a genuine article?

I got a pair brand new off eBay for under a fiver. A quick squirt of Isopropyl Alcohol gets the old ones off, you can line the new ones up with the marks left on the trim from the old ones, or use a bit of masking tape before you start.

Given the location of the instigator of this post, I thought he wished to change/remove the badges to impress a certain Mr Salmond, not remove them to replace with identical ones.

Thanks for your replies. Not particularly keen on the whole chequered flag thing to be honest as it looks a bit boy racerish imho (says he with the black alloys and tinted windows).

Not looking for a generic badge or to pretend it's something that it's not and keen to retain it's heritage.....so I'll probably just get a new one or go with a Mexican flag and a Jolly Roger.

Cheers.

The flags represent the racing heritage of the MG marque (The Union flag to start races in the UK, and the chequered flag to end them). If you said 'Boy Racer' to me I'd be thinking of base models of hot hatches with ridiculous wide wheels, body kits and big bore exhausts. In fact the flags are very similar to the badges you would also find on sporty Triumphs from the 60s and 70s like the Spitfire.
