Can you paint the inside of a microwave ??..
So we have a fairly decent micro, had it a few years now, it's a good size and works very well for everything we need. However the top of it inside has gone rusty in a couple of places, what I wondered is can I sand the rust down and hammerite the area ??.. Would it be safe to do so. I know I could just go out and buy a new one but bar this it looks and works great and I'm loath to just dump it due to a couple of spots of rust. Any one done this before ??..

I wouldn't use hammerite.... Use same or similar paint to the original - remember it has to be food safe as well. Apart from that, what's the worst that could happen?

Rusty? I have only had stainless steel as the inner box of a microwave.
Would it not be better to clean up and treat with one of the phosphate treatments (Jenolite etc) so as to stabilise the rust and then leave alone? |

I'd guess it would need to be some kind of enamel paint but I think you'd need to ask somewhere more knowledgeable than here. If you use any old paint there's the possibility of toxic fumes when the microwave is operating.
Dunno if this is any help. |
