What I don't get is, as a loyal customer who has not called them out, why should I pay more than a customer who hasn't paid a single penny into the kitty because they're new? I just checked and for a newbie the cover I had is £12 a month, for me they wanted double that ….

I was told keep swapping between will no longer be an option with them either, they're clamping down on people doing that she said, and if you go back it will be on file you're a previous customer and you will not get the discount anymore! She was SO rude!

My thoughts are, if people stop getting on the phone to complain to get a better price, but just cancel. Maybe the AA would change their ways.

I didn't phone. I emailed the CEO saying it was a stupid system whereby you can't cancel online. He cancelled it for me.

I managed to get my first year of AA for just £20! Not entirely sure how I did it, but I think they were doing an offer for cheap cover for the first year, I bought it through top cashback, and managed to get it for about £20.Might have even been a bit less. Not had to use it luckily, but it's good to know that if the worst happens i'm alright. Their business model is ridiculous - they essentially punish loyal customers.

Do Autoaid provide cover throughout Europe for cars over 15 years of age? Doesn't seem to indicate this on their website, and I don't have time right now to sit in "your call is important to us ..." hell.

I'd much rather go with an alternative to either AA or RAC, but living in NI I have to make sure that I'm covered for the multiple times in a year that I am driving in RoI.

"AutoAid only covers you driving in the UK (mainland England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). If you were travelling to Europe we offer a separate cover called EuroRescue which covers you for the time that you are abroad."

Same here, I think I paid £20 for £150 personal breakdown cover with the RAC using Quidco the cashback site.

I've now been with the RAC for 3 years, the most I've stayed with anyone. Each year they increase the renewal to more than double, one quick call to them and they reduced the renewal to just £10 more than the previous year.

This year I only paid £50 for what is £120 personal cover.
