Default MG ZT-T Spec

Hi

I appreciate this is a fairly old post but hope I will get a reply any way.
I was the very proud owner of a MG ZT 2.5L up until and just after the birth of number one sone when we exchanged it for a 'family hatchback'
With number two son now here and having even gone to an even larger 'family hatchback' we are in the market for another car and with the currant Mrs K saying how much she misses and loved the old ZT I have suggested a ZT-T
We will probably go fo a diesel but I have a couple of questions if I may.

1. Is there anything I should look out for on the ZT-T (especially the diesel, although I have ben told this is a fantastic engine I would appriciate any comments on this)
2. I have recently seen a picture of the rear end on a ZT-T with just the glass open and not the whole tail gate, was this an optional extra or is this standard?

Thanks in advance for ll your help

JK

Hi Welcome to the club!
I've had a ZT-T Diesel for 3 and half years and just got round to sorting the problems that have occured in that time. Don't be scared by this list as most are easily fixed and instructions can be found here on the forum on how to fix them.

1) The main things to watch for on the diesel are the
MAF Sensor...the engine will be lathagic on acceleration if this on it way out,
Intercooler 'O'-rings failure....characterised by 'oil'-like sludge in the NSF corner of engine bay.
The thermostat can fail open meaning the cabin can take some time to get up to temperature.
The slow speed brushes on the raditator fan for the AC can wear out causing a "whale call" sound from the compressor, this can be checked by switching on the AC and the raditor fan should switch on at low speed immediately.
The plenum (cavity below the windscreen) drains can get blocked with leaf debris and should be cleared ASAP to prevent flooding of the ECU.

2) All Tourer tailgates open fully, as does the glass screen you mention.

Others on here can possibly add to this.

Thanks Bprepared for your swift reply and all the little things to look out for.

Just to clarify you can open just the glass on all ZT-Ts?

No problem.

Yep...the the opening tailgate window is standard fit on all R75T's and ZT-T's.
Best of luck with your search!

Thanks Guys.

I personally think that is a cvery useful little feature, I wonder why more people don't tend to show this in their pictures when selling a car...........Do they tend to leak?

They can if the hinges aren't alligned correctly, check the side of upper seals and make sure they are making good contact with the tailgate frame, but if they are not then its just a case of loosening the screws and re-alligning

Morning Paul & Merry Xmas etc !

Just looking over some old shots of 75's I sold in 2006
.
This one is an O4 Contemporary Tourer.
Sadly the reg KX04 HCC is no longer valid or hopefully the present owner has a private reg on it ?!!!

I didn't realise how rare and very desirable these seats are.
Please feel free to use them.
