Question Rear brake backplates - questions

(Just checking) This is graphite grease isn't it?

I'm not sure whether to get these sandblasted so I can repaint them - or just put more paint on top of the factory stuff. What have others done?

The plates I suspect are often rusty when we come to look at them.
As mine were rusty I shot blasted back to metal and painted with por 15

Yes, I think they'll rust quicker than anything else on the car - but is it worth sandblasting these brand new ones prior to POR15?

Not really.

You need a paint that salt spray doesn't affect.

Salt and steel are not good bedfellows.---

I'm a bit unclear, are you saying not to use por 15 or don't shot blast back to bare metal before using por 15 or don't shot blast and don't use por 15?

por 15 is not good where it is exposed to sun light

The key is to remove the original paint, once that has gone use a decent red oxide primer (I did three coats) Then paint in the colour of choice.

Ok, I'll do it this way.

a) Sandblast
b) Paint with Bonda Rust Primer Zinc - several coats
c) Paint with POR15 Rust Preventive Paint - 2 coats

Thanks everyone.

Btw, was that graphite grease arrowed in the post 1 pic?

Probably for anti-squeal.
