Default Transporting planks...

Hi all, never had to do this before so not sure if this will be ok, I need to buy some timber to build some steps in the garden, it comes in lengths of 4.8m, and I need 5. Would that be ok on the roof of a saloon? It's literally only a 3 minute/1.7mile drive down the road. Would rather avoid getting them to deliver as they want £26 delivery, which nearly doubles the cost!

Should be OK as long as they don't overhang the front of the car and are secured correctly with a warning triangle on the rear of the planks and red cloth also tied around any rear overhang

i'd use a ladder as a support for them, at that length unlees they are substantial planks they will have a fair old bounce on them

failing that will they not cut them to size for you? or take a saw with you and cut them yourself to a more managable size

Or stack them on top of each other and tape them together. That will stop most of the bounce.

The saloon is 4.75m long so there will be hardly any overhang if you position them correctly.

Could you not recruit a couple of local kids to carry them, and pay them a tenner?

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

I have done that many times, just tie a rope around the front of the planks & secure to the front towing eye, just to take out the bounce.
