Default Apple's IPhone Unlocked

Well that didn't take long.
In 4 Days Our Whizz Kid Guys at Work have unlocked the new British IPhone and is currently working perfectly on a Vodafone Pay As You Go Card!

They are now in contact with Apple as Updates etc are being accepted to with the Mods even though that is meant not to Happen. A update will have to be done now as an auto download to stop parts of this working.
I may add this was a Paying Experiment Job to see how easy it was to Break in, details will not be released so no PM's please.

Will have some Photo's soon showing it working with this Card.

So it won't be long before the Normal Crackers are going to have this sorted to. Banning it to one Network was so obviously going to cause these types of problems. It was broken on the American Market in First week to!!

A mate of mine bought one in the states when it first came out, and had it unlocked in Russia, and has been using it here on Eircell. Seemingly Moscow is over-run with them, so its nothing new really.

One of our local villains offered be an unlocked one on Saturday morning.

It was a silly thing to do IMO and invited the attentions of the hackers.

Does make you wonder what is going on,
as Apple reckon they can count on one hand the number of successful ones done so far,
or are the offers to encryption companies etc to break it,
a clever ploy for free advertising as the sales are way under expectations?

It was hacked in the States within 48 hours of it going on the market. Software to do the job is easily available.
It appears the French are in dispute with Apple over tying it to one provider. We may find that the EU will force them to open up the market eventually.

I believe the French legislation states that a phone must be available in its unlocked form. However this simply means that they will sell the locked version at one price point and a further unlocked version will be available at another higher price.

Although it will be more interesting to see how/if the hackers can get a previously locked phone updated with the unlocked versions update files. The availability of an unlocked phone to make comparisons against will make it much easy to do this.

Surely the best all round solution is to not buy one?

In France, the legislation forbids operators and manufacturers to come up with a phone running exclusively on a certain network (like the i-phone and AT&T in the USA). This is why they have phones "SIM-locked" on a certain operator or another, while the same phone must exist unlocked (at a higher price very likely). In all cases, one can unlock the phone simply by calling his operator, after 6 months of service .
