Wasn't for me. They just pointed out it was on. Could be down to whoever does the MOT I guess.

As long as the braking test is a pass then the light being on would just be a heads up. The pads can be nearly spent but the braking efficiency required to pass the test is still OK with an advisory to renew.

There have been a few Posts recently of completely worn out Handrake shoes.
For this to happen surely it must be dragging, or not set up correctly?

I think one of my shoes is worn. Using the handbrake on a hill it tends to pick up on one side more (or maybe I've put on weight!)

I've not changed a brake shoe before, are they easy?

the brake pad wear sensors easily break, leaving the light on,easiest solution is to strip back the wire join them together ,hey presto no warning light.
this light is not accurate and its best to a visual check anyway

At as little as 7 or 8 pounds you can replace it with new. It is recommended they are replaced when renewing pads and or disks. The club does not advocate bodging these warning systems.
A visual check as you say is the preferred method for those that know what they are looking at.
