Exclamation Help! Tourer rear tailgate window will not lock.

Hi All

I hope that someone might be able to suggest a solution to my problem. The window on the rear tailgate will not latch and lock. When I operate the remote close button the car locks with a beep but the window still opens. When I switch on the ignition the info centre shows 'Tailgate Open'.

Any solution would be welcome as I set off on holiday at Noon tomorrow and I'm concerned about how I will lock the car.

Regards
Rosebank

Hi Rosebank and welcome to the club. It is a bit quiet here around teatime but I am sure some tourer experts will be able to sort you out this evening! It is always worth having a look through the 'How-to' section on the forum, often answers can be found there.

Hi Zeb

Thanks for your reply. I have had a look in the 'Helpful Hints' Section but most of the problems I read relate to a failure to UNLOCK this tailgate window which would certainly suit me at this point. I need to lock mine.

However as you suggest I'll await the experts later in the evening.

Thank you

Rosebank

The window seems to have a sprung pin that locates a hole and a pad that's presumably a sensor of some kind. I'd check these are clear of obstruction, and that the seals are seated properly allowing the glass to close.

Hello Moonstone

Thank you for your contribution. I've examined the rubber seals and ensured these are in place, and the pin associated with the window catch is also operating correctly.

Still no luck unfortunately . Awaiting further assistance if possible.

Thanks

Does the Actual Tailgate Lock?
Also you dont have a release button on yours do you, rather than using only Key Fob?

Usual thing to do would be to check all latches and hinges for debris/obstruction.

If there is no obstruction then does the tailgate have any stop-adjusters like the bonnets/saloon boot lids do?

If no then we may have to start suggesting alternate methods of securing the tailgate window.... (maybe involving gaffer tape )

If the tailgate locks, then ISTR it all runs via the same circuit from the BCU. May be worth disconnecting the battery (sat nav & radio codes etc) to see if the BCU resets itself.

If not, it may be a break in the wiring (unlikely) or a faulty switch

Hi JohnDotCom
The main tailgate is locked. There is no interior release switch, only a mechanical release button under the window handle. The locking and unlocking is by the remote keyfob.

Hi GreyGhost
Thank you for that additional post.

Hi SimonD
I've checked all the location points and looked for obstructions. Everything appears in proper order.

Hi Greeners
I'll check out the battery suggestion in the morning. But I'm becoming suspicious of a wiring fault because i've also found that the rear wiper is also not operating.

Thanks all ,
Regards
