My manual figures around town are like those figures but I only do 2 to 3 mile journeys every day.
The ipk says 27.8 -28.4 car drives fine but never get those wonderful figures everyone quoted door to door! Just did 47.8 with a decent load at 80 mph to Hastings last week so I hope all is well engine wise. Mixed driving in town and on runs averaged 44.1 but now im home its falling by the day!

I know people always bang on about the economy you can achieve with the CDT however round town and on the small county lanes round here I really struggled to get much over 30mpg when I had my 75 Auto CDT. On a run it was better but even driving carefully I rarely more then 40mpg.

To be honest I'm not surprised, Mrs Guru's BMW 120d which has a very similar engine is currently only getting 38mpg on her cross country journey to and from work.

I have read about people getting 60mpg+ out of the 75 diesel, all I can say is they're either mistaken or are not the kind of driver I'd like to follow!

The best I've got was last summer with a brim to brim was 46 mpg. It took a serious nose dive in the cold dark winter months of 35 average but the worst was 33. The overall average for the last year was 42 and that's with a disconnected maf and a 160 map..
Not to bad a all things considered

Auto's are about 25% worse on fuel than manuals, but 100% nicer to drive.

Over the 6 years I have had my 75 diesel auto, it has returned approx 27 mpg in 30 mph town speed limits and traffic, and mid fourties on long Mway runs down to the South coast. Fully loaded with hol gear..

Overall I get about 33 mpg as I don't do so many long runs now...

Everything is good on the car, I just put it down to the heavy car plus small engine, most of my trips are short so that probably explains a lot.
I must admit though I don't hang about 😀

Just got rid of my diesel auto but in the five years I had her she went from 62,000 miles to 225,000 miles at an average of 39.83 mpg. A lot of the driving was motorway and country lanes.
I now have a diesel manual and at the moment I appear to be getting 42+mpg. My job has changed and I now drive eleven miles to work and ten home with about one mile of really heavy traffic on the way home. The rest is clear country lanes and main roads where I can sit at about 45/50mph.
I did a motorway run the other week and that got me 49.3mpg and a really big grin.

The diesel auto's appear to be like for like about 10 miles per gallon more economical than the V6 auto. So a diesel owner would get about 150 miles further on a full tank of fuel.

There are plenty on here who cite very poor mpg compared with the manual.
Are they really that bad?
I'd expect about 5 mpg less than the manual....but some say its much worse.
Apologies to all who have posted about the same issue previously.

According to the 75 User Manual the Auto is 7-8 MPG worse than the manual.
On a long run (in lockup top gear), the figures are much better but never as good as the manual.

All depends on yer right foot also
Our various different engine variants here have always been spot on with the user manual figures for Urban Extra Urban etc , probably due to there never being any traffic jams in this part of the world

Just remember with the auto when you pull away in 1st you are probalby doing around 10 MPG then or even less when booting it .

Just for a comparison my Dad's 1.7 Petrol Merc B class Auto gets a steady 32 locally .

Chris

Don't try to compare with all the figures spouted by modern day makers almost all are totally unobtainable numbers in real life.
Chris. You have made a mistake in your post. All the figures detailed by car makers these days are dodo manure. Show me one car that gets anywhere near what the makers claim, and I will buy it for you.
