Technology is a wonderful thing, when it works! God help us when it doesn't.

It seems the haulage industry are following in the footsteps of SDV cars (software defined vehicles)

Look how they describe a lorry in the not too distant future, 'A programmable device'

Daimler truck & Volvo forge alliance for SDV software defined vehicles.

"Software-defined heavy-duty trucks represent a paradigm shift in the transformation of our industry.” He continues: “Making the truck a programmable device with standardized hardware and operating system for fast product updates will give both companies the opportunity to create value for our customers and their customers though differentiating digital services and solutions.”

What happens if someone cuts you up and keeps driving away, do the emergency anchors get deployed?

It also begs another question! Will we see a big disruption in the car insurance industry?
Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway fame says it will be good for the safety of people but bad for the insurance industry.

The premise here is that sensor or circuit glitches will occur far less frequently than they do with humans in control. Also, autonomous systems do not need to take their eye off the road in order to illegally look at/make use of their mobile phone, flirt with the passenger etc.

The sceptics should experience using adaptive cruise controls in everyday driving to appreciate just how much they do for road safety over humans.

It's all to do with statistical probabilities!

RobotDrive.

'fraid one can't resist. And incredibly boring.

Taking the control out of human hands is yet another pleasure denied in the name of Mammon. The operative word here is control. Let the rule breakers and the madmen die out through severe penalties for their own lack of control rather than continue in already illegal activities.

WE are not bees to make honey. WE are not sentient beasts producing the nectar of profit because of passing political pressures on world finances. WE are foolish to surrender to faceless back room bean counters and untraceable dictators.

Why on Earth this tiny scepter'ed Isle (1% producer of contaminants worldwide) should take an unnecessary lead (pronounced leed!) in a mad rush to cripple our own way of life is pure financial suicide. Let the Lemmings be the first to take the last leap.

Long live the donkey. Or, even, the Ass.
