Removed front interior light cluster today, to find a black unattached cable, does anyone have any idea what this should be attached to.

Its probably the connector for the auto dimming mirror.

I can see two large cables attached to the auto-dimming mirror; this black cable is of a much smaller diameter and is coated in shiny black plastic and is coming from the direction of the nearside front pillar.

How many pins does it have?
Post a pic up for clarification. Only things in the roof should be front and rear interior lights, possibly wiring for illuminated visors, mic lead for internal carphone, dimming mirror plug and security.
There was option of dvd screen in the headliner too but I don't think the lead was a standard loom, it was fitted with the rest of the system once you'd paid the £2000 for it.

if it's a small black one it is more than likely for the mic for the hands free option it runs down the driver pillar but is not connected to anything

No, it is not a drainpipe for the sunroof, Ive already had the pleasure of wet carpets and resetting the two front drainage pipes. This is a copper core cable with black plastic insulation.

Is there a connector on the end of it or has it just been cut?

May be from an old hands free kit thats been removed, I've removed lots of them, see if there's another end near the pasenger compartment fusebox by dropping the cover below the glovebox.
