Cruise control button lights up green as normal, but when steering wheel button pushed no yellow cruise control light on instrument panel and no cruise control. Any ideas

Put your foot behind clutch or brake pedal as that often will solve it.

Has it ever worked? salient point is the automatic has a double pole brake light switch, and if the brake lights work this is an indicator the switch is correctly adjusted.

Other thing has there been any work carried out on the car recently, perhaps requiring the steering wheel to be removed?

Hello,
Yes, it was working recently, brake lights work. Last week I installed a FBH and 1533 timer. Wired timer to cigar lighter and live and earth.

Why didn't you say

Ok engine management diagnostics, cruise control, live data overview.

It will show you the real time state of the switches, both pedal and steering wheel controls.
