Fuel smell

Hello all I have Been playing with my in tank fuel filter and have now sorted the problem ....but some fuel has spilled into the carpet and now stinks does anyone know how I can get rid of the smell venting alone doesn't seem to work many thanks Graham

cover it with baking soda and leave it to soak overnight
