Cool

Not actually legal if you go by the strict letter of the law. But others have fitted them and got away with it.

these are strictly road legal .according to both the guy slling them and the mot tester . a guy at the garage fitted some all in 10 min job.. replace bulb with the new one and from out the box 2 wires plug in to the bulb connector .. result the brightest lights i have seen ..
i wanted to get a set for my car but by the time i got back from the other garage after fitting a thermal fuse /relay to a scenic he had gone ..

There are many HID kits for sale on ebay. They look good and tell you how marvellous they are.

At the end of the add in very small letters it says "for off road and show use only"

Aftermarket HIDs are NOT illegal. The law (Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989) does not refer to them. It only addresses filament bulbs.

Factory fitted HIDs comply to European type approval regulations, and therefore cannot be outlawed under UK law. And type approval can only be obtained for new vehicles.

There is an advisory from VOSA about the requirements for aftermarket HIDs, saying they should conform to the same standards as factory fitted (headlamp cleaning, self levelling etc)... BUT it is just an advisory statement and as such is not on the statutes.

Therefore... not illegal.

(Note, I am not a lawyer, so the above is just my opinion, having studied the various statutes relating to vehicle lighting)
