Question Expansion tank cap seals

Simple one.

Was checking and topping up the coolant levels this morning (my usual daily check) when I noticed one of the rubber seals on the expansion cap had been snagged was about to drop off.

Is it possible just to buy the replacement seals on their own ? (Its one of the 140 rated caps) or do I have to replace the whole cap ?

Where's the best place to get them from (and how much) ?

Cheers

Pipe

would not recommend a second hand cap..get a new one and you know where you stand with it.

seals may look ok but under pressure they will throw coolant out

you cant always guarantee a new cap, mine was only 2 month old when it went as for a new o-ring, if you get the size of the original, then i dont see why not. may be able to get one from a plumbing place or ebay i could get one through work if i needed one
however, if it is a couple of years old, save yourself the time and just replace it. then if push came to shove, youve got a spare that you may be able to use in an emergency

Thanks.

Does anyone have a link for a supplier, in the Nottingham area, who would have these caps (ESR1480) in stock (or somewhere I can order this on-line)? Rimmer Bros appear to be out of stock.

Cheers

Pipe.

Can anyone tell me if this expansion cap would fit a Rover 75 ? Its got the same part number ESR1480 but the site only refers to range rovers.

depends on what the cap is rated at pressure wise. it needs to be 140 (not sure what unit that is in) and is on the top of the cap and on the bottom. would be worth asking. BMW ones also fit but one that is supplied by my local auto place was 200, which is miles too high
