one of the guys over on XPF owns it.
BX04 YDC is also up for sale at the moment on autotrader.
these cars were facelifted mark 1 cars for the press to use.

Is it black now or have the DVLA got it wrong?

The car was never firefrost. It was Aurora chromactive and still is.
The press cars were taken from the production line and 'tweaked' in different styles. I guess the intention was that car was going to be black, before it got 'pressed up'.

All press cars where identified as such throughout the build process they had things like double thickness sound deader mats fitted, two coats of laquer to make them shine a little more etc etc, just to make them look and drive a little bit better than a standard production car.
IIRC most where finished by hand off the tracks so every little detail could be double checked.

When I was at Rover, Press cars were never "specially built" down the track. Press garages carried out all the work post production (including paint) calling in support from all product devleopment areas to provide certain spec of parts to ensure "best" attribute performance.

Examples I was involved in included power steering valving and pumps that were at a specific optimum point in the tolerance range (note within tolernace, they weren't "non standard"), cars also sometimes had thicker front door glass and special NVH insulation

This wasn't conning the press, it was just ensuring that the vehicles achived best performance in the unforgiving eyes of our press who also reviewed vehicles from other manuafacturers in the same specially enhanced state.

A certain German manufacturer had some very special transmissions made for one of their cars........now that's really cheating

All i can say is that all R25/ZR's R45/ZS's and TF body shells came through Number 2 paint from BIW had a large round metal disc hanging inside the shell saying 'Press Car' that's how we knew which ones to pay more 'attention' to and that they needed extra processes done to them.

Crikey, maybe they got painted again!!!

I know the R25 and R45 launch cars had rather thick and glossy paint! And they were lacquered under the bonnet unlike the everyday ones.

What a car to get second hand eh?

I wouldn't let Jeremy Clarkson anywhere near any of my cars, and certainly wouldn't buy one if I knew he'd driven it.
