Thanks for the memories
Well folks it was in May 2011 that I hosted my first local gathering at Portland and there have been many others over the years and I have enjoyed them all but I have decided that the recent Portland meet will bring a close to my organising local meets, although I shall continue to support local events where possible.
I would like to thank each and every one of the people that have attended any of the Dorset meets for being so supportive of our get togethers I will continue to help out with the National meets for now and of course the Rovers and MGs to Holland trip is still waiting in the wings and will become very live early in 2019 Cheers Ian |

Ah! I remember well that first meet when I turned up in the "new" MG 6 & 'alf. I remember the first time I ever met you and Jan, at the National in Calne, and instantly fell in love with a certain Firefrost ZT.
I have loved attending the meets you have put together Ian, we had some laughs, some cracking unusual raffles. I know where you are coming from regarding meets. I have had 3 cars drop out from my first meet tomorrow, "Cars under the stars", thought I would try a mid week meet for a change. I hope to meet up with you and el Bandito at some point. All the best for keeping the Nationals up and running, not an easy job I would imagine.

Yes there's certainly been a giggle or three along the way.. I must admit I'd forgoten all about the raffles with prizes that money couldn't buy. ..What was it? "a years supply of fresh veg that consisted of a small bag of compost and a packet of carrot seeds" Regarding the nationals I know that in an ideal world everyone would have a national on their doorstep but I always try to find a family friendly location around the country with other things to do over the meet weekend. The next national in August is at the Anglesey Transport Museum with panoramic views of Snodownia as a backdrop. The social side (evening eats and drinks) is growing and I've introduced a national meet Saturday run to somewhere interesting in the area and will be posting details for the August Sat run in a few days. As you say not always an easy task but mostly very enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday at Powderham mate. Cheers Ian |

Likewise the couple of meets I’ve done we’ve had giggles as well, trying to get folk to these meets is a task in itself nowadays,I would’ve liked to have gone on a trip to Holland etc but the daughter is getting married next may in Croatia,so it’s penny saving times ahead for a while anyway, will be good to see the progress with the sprout and to see yourself and jan at powderham

It's not the lack of numbers Matt we had 13 cars at the last Portland meet which is quite good for an area with few member's.
It's just that I feel that if I continue the meets will become stale, nobody wants to do the same old thing every time and I've pretty much run out of places to go locally. Cheers Last edited by Ian G; 3rd July 2018 at 22:21.. |
