How would you store a spare engine.
Any thoughts on how to store engines long term without turning it over. I am think in particular preserving the cylinder bores. Would filling the bores up with oil do and then when fitting it just suck the oil back out, or would that cause problem starting.
Any other suggestions? |

Just a couple of squirts of a light oil in each cylinder would do ----- turn the crank a few times after putting it in. Tape up any openings and turn the crank every month or so to stop the pistons getting too matey with the bores.
If you don't want to turn it over after oiling the cylinders it should be OK -- but you do need to turn it initially to spread the oil about. |

I've had my "new" engine running today, it's been stood on a pallet in the back garden for over 3 years.
All I did was squirt a bit of engine oil down each plug hole and wrap it in polythene before leaving it out in the elements. Started first time

As others have said, also vaseline the crank oil seal (unless you are planning on fitting a new one) And, I would give the engine a good going over with WD40 to keep the water at bay.
