Driveshaft removal
Is it possible to remove and replace without draining the gearbox?

I think it can be but you would have to jack one side of the car up very high to stop the oil from running out.
Draining and re-filling the box is not as complicated as removing the drive shaft itself. |

It's automatic though John so it is complicated. Was wondering if it could be jacked up quite high, then shaft removed and a rag stuffed in the aperture to stop the oil running out.

Or maybe a small plastic funnel ( tapered. ) With the small end plugged and held in place in the oil seal somehow.---

Turns out I was wrong John, it's not driveshaft, it's bottom ball joint.

No , unless the hub locating hole is worn too, in which case a replacement hub will be on the cards., check out my other thread. " is it engine mount"?

The inner tripod joint will just slide apart if you unclip the boot, just put something underneath to catch the 3 roller bearings if they drop out. The end can then stay in the gearbox.

Can a mod please close this thread now as it's irrelevant, I discovered the shaft is not the fault.
