Default Key Problem !!

Rover 75 1.8 Petrol Auto.
Just had the battery changed as it failed leaving me locked out . My rover man got in through the Ski Hatch to my amazement.
My spare key was used during the change over ,checking battery ,voltage output etc..
When I went back to the car to go out, the key operated the door locks , ignition etc but when turned it would not operate the starter motor.
Deceided to try the other key and found it worked fine. At a loss to understand why as I don't think the transponder is related ?? Can't see why the programming should be upset on one key. Especially as it worked fine before the battery was changed ant not used during it ??
Any help appreciated !!

If the transponder is missing from your key, it won't start the car

Have a look here John

LINK

If you car has a message centre IPK fitted, the central display will show "engine disabled" if there is a fault with the transponder.

If the car has a lowline IPK fitted, you will experience a picture of an engine with a cross through it.

Either way, it's too much of a coincidence not to be related to the recent battery failure on the car

If you have a look here: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...12&postcount=1
These people can all sort transponders out.
I would guess PhilT4 may be your nearest? (alternatively I think all of us can do this by post if you can live without a car for a few days)

Most of the ebay keys are just blanks for you to transfer your electrics and transponder into.. If there's any way you can try and find your transponder from when you changed the battery, it will save you a lot of hassle..

No, they're a program once device I'm afraid

So you can either

A) Post your immobiliser to any of the chaps offering the key service on here, this normally takes about three days in total including postage times.

B) Drive to your nearest T4 member who does keys.

C) Order one through BMW (£220)

D) Ask me nicely if when I go down to see Terry at TS Auto's if I'll pop in and do it at your door

Any of these options will work

Default Key Problems

Just say thank you for all the help and education on the subject of keys.! I thought BMW keys were expensive , but I am told by one company ,that Toyota key loss can run into a thousand pounds or more ?
I should have made clear the key I am in trouble with is my spare key , so all was not lost. In the meantime , I have checked my car insurance and delighted to find my keys are covered.!!!
